On Friday 6th June, Mireille Tamer and I had the opportunity to represent our school, for the very first time, in the regional Evatt Debating Competition – a mock simulation of the real UN Security Council which meets regularly to discuss policies and issues concerning the human rights of the global population.
In this competition, each team of two from schools in the region were representing a different country, such as Rwanda or Australia, and fought for their nation’s interests to be heard as we discussed ‘resolutions’ (topics of debate based on current concerns in the world).
The country whose perspectives we were representing was China, and the ‘resolutions’ we were discussing were a) reducing the sizes of active militaries and b) organ trafficking. After a couple of weeks of preparation, during which we researched our country and the issues given to us, we left at 8.00am in the morning with Mrs Crawley to arrive at Penrith High School on time for the competition. Our judges arrived shortly after us, and the debate soon began.
The day was enjoyable and a thrilling new experience – as it was our first time there, we had to learn the process very quickly, the judges were attentive and helpful. As China, we had our work cut out for us – the resolutions being discussed were sensitive issues for our country, and our two strongest ally nations were absent on the day. Despite the challenge, one of our two resolutions passed the negotiations, and we had a great time meeting other youth from our local area who were passionate about being active global citizens.
The relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the competition was what surprised me most. Everyone got along well and supported each other, and we hardly ever felt like we were there for the first time. On behalf of both of us, I would like to extend my gratitude to Mrs Leask for giving us the opportunity to be involved in this unique, first-hand experience, and also to Mrs Crawley for supporting us during the whole process – both before and on the actual day of the debate. Participating in an Evatt competition was a great way to learn about the world around us, and helped us develop a deeper understanding of how complex politics really is; without a doubt, I would recommend anyone interested to consider getting involved in Evatt in the future.

Our Year 11 students gathered at the St Benedict XVI Retreat Centre this week for their Senior Retreat, guided by the theme “What we are is God’s gift to ourselves.” Through prayer, reflection and shared experiences, students explored their God-given gifts, strengthened their faith and reflected on how they can lead through service and make a positive difference in their final year and beyond. A highlight was the student-led Liturgy of the Word, celebrated by Father Johnson Joseph and Father Sheldon Burke from St Padre Pio Parish, whom we sincerely thank for their continued support and guidance. As our students embark on this significant year, may they lead with courage, live with faith and serve with compassion, leaving a lasting legacy within our College community and beyond.

Year 10 took public transport to the city to attend the Japan Foundation where they participating in a Japanese language immersion program designing their "Dream Trip to Japan". They also learnt about traditional designs and their meanings, before doing some hands on shibori-zome dying. The day was rounded out with Japanese retail therapy at Daiso and a yummy Japanese lunch.

During the holidays, the Ancient History class had the opportunity to go on a day trip to Melbourne to visit the Ancient Rome Exhibit at Melbourne Museum. Starting very early at Penrith Station, the students accompanied by Ms Esler, Mrs Vella and Mrs Chan made their way to Sydney Airport to catch a flight to Melbourne. On arriving to Melbourne, they took advantage of the free tram service to see the sights of Melbourne CBD before making their way to the Museum. The museum displayed a number of artefacts that are on loan from museums in Italy. These were on display amongst interactive displays that portrayed everything from Roman Baths to Gladiatorial events in the arena. Many of the statues and other artefacts on display were of key figures in the Julio-Claudian unit, which made a very good introduction to the HSC Course. Afterwards, students and teachers enjoyed some very high quality pizza that felt in keeping with the Italian theme of the trip. After lunch, it was then time to head back to the airport to make their way home.

The College is delighted to congratulate the Class of 2027 as they officially receive their Year 12 cardigans. The girls were filled with excitement and pride as they put on their cardigans for the first time. More than an addition to the school uniform, these cardigans will serve as a cherished keepsake of their school journey at CCC and a meaningful token of the memories they will create in the year ahead. Receiving them marks a significant milestone, signifying the formal commencement of their final year in high school. The College extends its warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Year 12 2027.

Please join us to celebrate our talented Creative Arts students. The annual Showcase will be held on Thursday 29 October. Doors open at 4pm for parents and friends to view the Visual Arts Exhibition. The Dance and Drama Showcase will be held in the Performance Centre and the Music Showcase will be held upstairs in the Music rooms. Both of these Showcases will commence at 4.30pm.
