Students test their Agricultural skills

31 May 2018

Senior students took the lead in helping organise the first-ever combined Catholic Colleges Agriculture Show recently.

Penola Catholic College, Emu Plains hosted the event which saw around 60 senior and junior students from Caroline Chisholm Catholic College, Bligh Park and Xavier Catholic College, Llandilo participate.

Penola Primary Industry teachers, Nadine Sibbald, said the show gave the students the opportunity to develop skills in washing, grooming, handling, parading and judging beef cattle. They then competed in judged events to practise the skills they had learnt.

"This was a great opportunity for the students to experience peer-to-peer teaching,” Mrs Sibbald said. “The senior students got to practise their mentoring skills and lead the junior students in helping them develop their skills with beef cattle."

“We also decided to participate in Western Sydney University Unischools Steer Comp, where students are given up to 100 days to raise a steer,’’ she said.

“When we decided to do this, our Principal Tania Cairns advised us to put a call out to other schools to see if they also wanted to participate. We then decided it would be a good idea to have our own Agricultural Show!’’

The overall champion student for the parading category show was Nicholas Psathas with first in the heat's going to Liam Hall and Nathan Gregory (Seniors) and Nicholas Psathas and Nicholas Dura (Juniors).

The overall champion for the judging category was Caroline Chisholm student Bailey Mitchell. Chris Dixon won the seniors category.

The training sessions during the day were led by the senior students. Penola student Skye Baxter played a key role in organising the event.

Special presenters for the day were Nikki Vaughan and Nicholas Hareszceuk from Double n Cattle Company and Tahlia Chandler from Sunset Park Livestock. Wairake and Babana Stud Cattle Studs provided the red poll heifers and cows for use on the day.

On Tuesday 24 June our representative dance companies competed at the PDSSSC Dance Competition. All students represented our College beautifully and performed well on stage. The companies included our Pasifika and Bollywood groups, who also recently performed at the Multicultural Day at school. The Lyrical, Hip Hop and Jazz companies also did very well. A special mention to the Jazz company who placed 3rd in a tough section. Our junior soloists also placed in their section, with Makenzie (year 9) in 2nd and Laci (year 7) placing 3rd. @Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese

With many of our students aspiring to careers in real estate, this term’s final Lunch and Learn couldn’t have been more relevant or inspiring. We were thrilled to welcome back valued Alumnae and one of the industry’s rising local stars — Kayla Fenech (Class of 2020) — who returned to Caroline Chisholm to generously share her career journey, wisdom and practical advice. Now a Business Development Manager (BDM) at Ray White United Group, Kayla's theme was 'More Than Just Selling & Leasing Homes' and she gave our students an honest and inspiring look into her pathway - from graduation to success - showing just what’s possible with passion and persistence. Her insights into the real estate world and her personal reflections on building a career were invaluable to the big lunchtime audience on hand. Kayla discussed what real estate is really like, different career paths within the industry, a 'day in the life' of a BDM, the skills/qualifications you need and how to get started. Thank you, Kayla for kindly giving back to your school community and helping the next generation imagine what’s possible. We loved having you back at CCC! Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese

What a moment of pride as we celebrated the achievements of 22 incredible students who have shown true dedication, energy and focus in preparing for their future careers through the Ready Set Work program. This innovative series, developed by Study Work Grow and facilitated by our College’s Pathways Coaches, ran from November to June during lunchtime sessions. It included key modules such as: Workplace Induction, How to Find a Job, Communicating with Employers, Resume Writing & Job Applications, Interview Skills & Mock Interviews and a Peer Mentoring Panel. We were also very fortunate to have generous senior students as volunteers and mentors along the way, who shared their own insights and casual job experiences. We were thrilled to recognise our Ready Set Work graduates with Certificates of Achievement and Program Transcripts, presented by our Acting Principal, Mrs Petrovski, at a special morning tea. Congratulations Ladies — you are now truly ready and set...to go and step into the world of work!

The Junior CCC Rep soccer team played Penola last Thursday in the PDSSSC Thursday sport competition at Jamison Park. With perfect conditions for football, the girls attacked the game with determination and enjoyment despite being down players. Their attack in the first half was terrific putting pressure on the Penola defence and we were unlucky not to score with the teams level 0-0 at half time. The girls played well again in an even matched second half. However, a late goal to Penola saw the team go down 0-1. Despite the loss, the team is showing improvement in every game.

We were thrilled to welcome back College Alumnae Larissa Dimech (Class of 2020), who popped in for a special mentoring chat with two of our aspiring pastry chefs, Rhianna and Kate. Larissa generously shared her inspiring journey — from her beginnings at TAFE NSW studying a Certificate III in Cake and Pastry, to her impressive work as a Pastry Chef, and now her exciting move into food science and technology. Larissa offered invaluable advice, insights and encouragement for breaking into this creative industry. We're so grateful for her time and generosity — especially as she prepares for her next big adventure: a three-month work experience trip to Europe as a 2024 Global Footprints Scholar! Bon voyage, Larissa — we can’t wait to see where your talent and passion take you next! Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese

On Thursday 19 June 2025, the Caroline Chisholm College U16 Nine-a-side Rugby League team recorded a convincing 30–0 victory over Delaney College. While the scoreboard reflects a dominant performance, it was the team’s discipline, communication, and relentless defensive effort that truly set them apart. Every player embraced their role, with strong tackles, smart ball movement, and cohesive teamwork contributing to a well-deserved win. It has been remarkable to witness the growing confidence and skill development of the team’s newest members. Special mention goes to Harlow for her player-of-the-match performance, showcasing energy, strength, and leadership on the field, and to Delilah for her impressive try-scoring efforts. Our next game will be in term three where we look to continue our unbeaten run. @Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese
