Senior students took the lead in helping organise the first-ever combined Catholic Colleges Agriculture Show recently.
Penola Catholic College, Emu Plains hosted the event which saw around 60 senior and junior students from Caroline Chisholm Catholic College, Bligh Park and Xavier Catholic College, Llandilo participate.
Penola Primary Industry teachers, Nadine Sibbald, said the show gave the students the opportunity to develop skills in washing, grooming, handling, parading and judging beef cattle. They then competed in judged events to practise the skills they had learnt.
"This was a great opportunity for the students to experience peer-to-peer teaching,” Mrs Sibbald said. “The senior students got to practise their mentoring skills and lead the junior students in helping them develop their skills with beef cattle."
“We also decided to participate in Western Sydney University Unischools Steer Comp, where students are given up to 100 days to raise a steer,’’ she said.
“When we decided to do this, our Principal Tania Cairns advised us to put a call out to other schools to see if they also wanted to participate. We then decided it would be a good idea to have our own Agricultural Show!’’
The overall champion student for the parading category show was Nicholas Psathas with first in the heat's going to Liam Hall and Nathan Gregory (Seniors) and Nicholas Psathas and Nicholas Dura (Juniors).
The overall champion for the judging category was Caroline Chisholm student Bailey Mitchell. Chris Dixon won the seniors category.
The training sessions during the day were led by the senior students. Penola student Skye Baxter played a key role in organising the event.
Special presenters for the day were Nikki Vaughan and Nicholas Hareszceuk from Double n Cattle Company and Tahlia Chandler from Sunset Park Livestock. Wairake and Babana Stud Cattle Studs provided the red poll heifers and cows for use on the day.

Congratulations to Year 12 student Georgia K for receiving two Callback nominations for her HSC Practical Dance exams. Callback is the showcase for exemplary HSC practical works from the 2026 HSC exams. Georgia was nominated for Major Study Performance and Core Composition. Leaders’ Commissioning Ceremony Yesterday, we proudly gathered as a College community for our Leaders’ Commissioning Ceremony, recognising and celebrating the students who have been entrusted with leadership for the year ahead. The ceremony was a beautiful opportunity to formally commission our student leaders and remind them of the responsibility that comes with serving their peers and College community. Our Year 7 students enjoyed learning how to do tricks using kendama - a traditional Japanese wooden toy made up of a handle & cross piece with cups connected to a wooden ball with a string. It was tricky, but some students were able to combine several tricks together!

PASS Camp - Group 6 - Day 2: We had an early start to pack up our camp site and get ready for the day ahead. Along the way to the high ropes course we fed some friendly cows our leftover bread from brekky. I am so proud of the girls with 17 students completing the high ropes course - a challenging test of strength and balance whilst up to 15 metres off the ground and amongst the trees. The way you encouraged and cheered your peers on was so great to see. Well done ladies!

PASS Camp - Group 6 - Day 1: The group made up of 19 Year 10 students ventured out to build rafts to paddle from one side of the river to the other. While that wasn't quite as successful as we had hoped - it was more fun falling into the water on a warm and sunny September day. We had some free time on the river followed by a 40 minute walk to our campsite. Souvlaki for dinner prepared by the students and a relaxing evening by the camp fire. Day 1 was eventful, tiring but memorable all the same!

Year 9 PASS Group 5 Students had an exciting and rewarding start to their Year 9 PASS camp. The girls began with a short bushwalk to the high ropes course, where they challenged themselves, supported one another, and stepped outside their comfort zones. Afterwards, the group headed to camp for the night. They successfully lit a campfire, set up their own tents, and worked together to cook dinner. At the end of the day, the girls reflected on the roles they had taken on and the teamwork they had demonstrated throughout the activities. They enjoyed a peaceful night, falling asleep to the sound of rain on their tents, before waking to birdsong and the sounds of nature. After packing up camp, the group made their way down to the water for a fun session of beach games to finish the experience. We are so proud of the girls for their resilience, teamwork, and willingness to embrace each challenge and new experience. It was thoroughly enjoyable to share the experience with them all, seeing their smiles, and watching their confidence grow throughout the camp.

Year 9 PASS Group 3 – Camp Somerset Year 9 PASS Group 3 had an action-packed two days at Camp Somerset, taking on a range of challenges and developing new skills along the way. Students embraced the opportunity to work together, build confidence and step outside their comfort zones through activities including kayaking, beach games, cooking souvlaki for dinner, and a challenging 3km trek through the mountains. Across the two days, students developed their teamwork, communication, problem-solving, resilience and leadership skills, while enjoying the chance to learn and have fun in the outdoors. It was fantastic to see students encouraging one another, tackling challenges with enthusiasm and making the most of their Camp Somerset experience.

Last Thursday, we were privileged to celebrate the Bishop’s Award for Student Excellence at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta. A prestigious diocesan honour, the Bishop’s Award recognises one outstanding Year 12 student from each Catholic secondary college across the Diocese of Parramatta, celebrating young people who embody Gospel values through their character, leadership and contribution to others. We warmly congratulate our Caroline Chisholm College award recipient Anastasia, whose commitment to faith, leadership and service reflects the values and mission of our College. We also congratulate Matilda who represented Caroline Chisholm by proudly reading the citation. 🏕️ PASS Camp Group One 🌿 What an adventure, involving challenge and teamwork! 🛶 Canoeing pushed students to dig deep, keep paddling and work together as a team. 🥙 Souvlaki for dinner was the perfect reward after a huge day of activity! 🥾 Cow feeding and Morning hiking brought spectacular views and memorable moments. Most importantly, our students have been putting teamwork, perseverance, flexibility and adaptability into action — encouraging each other, tackling challenges head-on and embracing everything camp has to offer.
