Year 12 students preparing for the show
Students at Caroline Chisholm College, Glenmore Park launched their radio show, Chit Chat recently, broadcasting their own program content live from the school’s studio.
The Chit Chat features news, entertainment and music with comical segments and local interviews designed to build a sense of community spirit at the College.
College Principal Mary Leask, said the live show runs for 20 minutes is presented by the students and the podcast is shared to students online.
‘The studio is very modest using basic software and technology but it provides a powerful learning experience for the students in media and communications,’ said Mary.
‘Students generate the content, select the playlist for the station, present the segments and write material for a target audience,’ she said. ‘We have also been very fortunate to have the generous support and industry expertise of one of our parents, Darren McErlain.’
Year 12 student Lauren Bozic said program highlights such as the secret sound competition to identify teacher’s footsteps and a tongue-in-cheek corridor traffic report makes great radio.
‘Our ideas are often concerned with local-based content for our College, with an entertaining spin,’ said Lauren.
‘This project has taught us the art of speaking clearly, creative writing for radio and the social responsibility in journalism of checking facts,’ she said.
The radio show is available as a podcast online.

As part of their ‘Let’s Go Global’ unit, Year 10 Commerce students visited ALDI and McDonald's to examine the impact of global supply chains on consumer choices. They explored imported vs. Australian-made products at ALDI and investigated how McDonald's adapts its global brand to local markets. Discover the UNIverse has taken flight again — touching down at Macquarie University! Olivia and Scarlett from the Future Students team brought the energy, taking us on a fun and informative ride through what it’s really like to study at Macquarie. From Scarlett’s inspiring personal story as a Macquarie student, to deep dives into the latest courses and areas of study, entry pathways, adjustment factors, diploma options and the Leaders and Achievers Early Entry Program — today was full of insights! We also explored student services, scholarships, accommodation facilities, internships, exchange programs and the fantastic opportunities available through the Walanga Muru Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pathway. Congratulations to our Junior Oztag Team who finished Runners Up at the Champion of Champions, Western Sydney Regional Tournament today. The team finished second in their pool, won their semi final and progressed into the Grand Final where they placed second overall. The team has earnt a spot at the Champion of Champions tournament to be held on the Central Coast in August this year. We’re excited to welcome our newest Pathway Member, MIKU! Her name means "first voice from the future," which perfectly reflects the inspiration and innovation she'll bring to our team. We can’t wait to see all the amazing things she'll do! A special call out to our fabulous Year 8 Students Lola, Hannah and Olivia who initially suggested MIKU. Thank you to everyone who voted to name our Career Monster - we received over 200 entries! Miku will be collecting questions and ideas from students about pathways and careers and delivering them straight to our Pathways Coaches' desks. She'll also be making appearances throughout the school and on socials in the coming weeks and months.

It was fantastic to welcome back Caroline Chisholm College Alumnae Abbey Slaughter from apprenticeship network provider Apprenticeship Support Australia for our latest Lunch and Learn session. Abbey led an insightful and practical discussion, helping students explore how apprenticeships and traineeships can feature in their post school plans. Georgia Gately travelled to Melbourne over the school holidays to compete in the Australian Womens Youth Championships (AWYC) for Baseball. At 13 years old in the Under 16s age group, Georgia has had her first taste on the National Stage and has come out of it with a bright future Despite an injury setback on Day 1 that threatened to take her out of the tournament, Georgia took the competition on including a 2 inning, 6 strike out master class (embarrassingly topped of with the player of the day interview) Georgia continues to represent herself, family, state and school with maturity and continues to make new friends across the country with every chance.
