It's an explosion of twins!

09 Feb 2024

Sets of twins that are starting 2024 at Caroline Chisholm College Glenmore Park
Charlotte Turnbull, Gabrielle Turnbull, Molly Basman, Matilda Basman, Ava Marakovic, Sophia Marakovic, Nehchal Gill, Rasleen Gill, Faizah Rehan, Fizzah Rehan and Principal Tania Cairns.

Staff and students at Caroline Chisholm Catholic College are well and truly seeing double, with five sets of twins starting this year.

Principal Tania Cairns said she has also only ever seen three sets of twins in one year group before.

“We have had two and I think one year there was three, but not five, so this is really a first, it’s very unusual,” she said.

“I don’t quite know what was in the water back in time when they were conceived, but there was certainly something in the water there!”

With four sets identical and one fraternal, Cairns said having that many twins at the school overall has been just as special for the kids as it is the school.

“Having gathered together last week, they certainly felt like it was very special for them, because they said they had other twins in their school, but none of them had other twins in their year groups,” she said.

They’re a special little group within themselves, really.

Cairns said that all of the twins are in the same classes, except one set who have been separated since Year 4, noting how strongly linked they all are to one another.

“I’ve noticed how physically connected they were, because one of them had arms link and another was holding hands – you wouldn’t normally see that in Year 7,” she said.

“It was very hard to pull them apart, they were very strongly linked to each other.”

Noting last year’s leadership team, Cairns said that maybe Caroline Chisholm is the place to be for twins in the area.

“It’s extraordinary, and it’s very, very special, especially in an all-girls school,” she said.

“Last year we had identical twin captains, and they were great role models, so I’m excited about it.”

Our school is participating in the Choosing Your Uni National Virtual Expo, a free online event held during National Careers Week. Across the week, students and parents can explore live and on-demand sessions from Australian universities, government organisations, and real students, covering topics like career direction, pathways, funding, scholarships, and student life. The Expo is run by Choosing Your Uni, an independent platform that helps students figure out what to study and where. It's not affiliated with any university — the guidance is unbiased and student-first. Students and Parents can register via the unique code that has been emailed today and also via our Careers Canvas page (for students).

Our students proudly represented the school at the PDSSSC Volleyball Gala Day last week demonstrating fantastic teamwork, determination, and resilience throughout the day. Both the Junior and Intermediate teams played with great spirit, supported one another, and showed excellent sportsmanship on and off the court. Their positive attitudes and willingness to keep pushing, no matter the challenge, were a credit to our school community. A big thank you to our parents and families who came along to support the teams, it made a real difference on the day. We would also like to acknowledge Mrs McElroy for her organisation of the event. Well done to all players for your effort and commitment, we are proud of you!

7HSIE1 students experimented today with the preservation process involved in Ancient Egyptian mummification. We created our own natron salt to preserve the flesh of an apple and in ten day's time we will see the effectiveness of this technique! Ancient Egyptians needed to preserve the physical body so that the deceased person could enter the happy place called the Field of Reeds in their afterlife.

Taylah (Year 12) is one step closer to her dreams of taking flight after stepping into the world of cabin crew careers with Qantas. Thanks to Georgie Dunstan and the Early Talent Team at Australia’s global airline, Taylah was immersed in what it truly takes to become a flight attendant from the moment this incredible and unique experience began. From exploring a realistic aircraft cabin setup - complete with passenger seating, service trolleys and authentic training equipment - to learning about the evolution of uniforms and onboard service, every moment brought the role of a cabin crew team member to life. A standout was the opportunity to connect with Sophie, a current flight attendant, who shared her personal journey and answered questions with honesty and insight. Taylah also took part in a collaborative group task, mirroring the recruitment process and showcasing the teamwork and communication skills needed to succeed in the industry - giving her a genuine taste of what future applicants can expect. The experience was elevated even further through virtual reality training, allowing Taylah to move through the entire aircraft - from flight deck to cabin - and interact with its features in real time. The immersion concluded with valuable conversations with recruitment team members, offering practical advice, clarity and real-world guidance on pathways into the industry. Opportunities like this don’t just inform - they inspire, ignite ambition and build confidence, enabling Taylah to envision her future and take one step closer to it. Our sincere thanks to Georgie, Kalinda Petrovski, and the Qantas team for generously providing such a wonderful experience for aspiring cabin crew.
