It's an explosion of twins!

09 Feb 2024

Sets of twins that are starting 2024 at Caroline Chisholm College Glenmore Park
Charlotte Turnbull, Gabrielle Turnbull, Molly Basman, Matilda Basman, Ava Marakovic, Sophia Marakovic, Nehchal Gill, Rasleen Gill, Faizah Rehan, Fizzah Rehan and Principal Tania Cairns.

Staff and students at Caroline Chisholm Catholic College are well and truly seeing double, with five sets of twins starting this year.

Principal Tania Cairns said she has also only ever seen three sets of twins in one year group before.

“We have had two and I think one year there was three, but not five, so this is really a first, it’s very unusual,” she said.

“I don’t quite know what was in the water back in time when they were conceived, but there was certainly something in the water there!”

With four sets identical and one fraternal, Cairns said having that many twins at the school overall has been just as special for the kids as it is the school.

“Having gathered together last week, they certainly felt like it was very special for them, because they said they had other twins in their school, but none of them had other twins in their year groups,” she said.

They’re a special little group within themselves, really.

Cairns said that all of the twins are in the same classes, except one set who have been separated since Year 4, noting how strongly linked they all are to one another.

“I’ve noticed how physically connected they were, because one of them had arms link and another was holding hands – you wouldn’t normally see that in Year 7,” she said.

“It was very hard to pull them apart, they were very strongly linked to each other.”

Noting last year’s leadership team, Cairns said that maybe Caroline Chisholm is the place to be for twins in the area.

“It’s extraordinary, and it’s very, very special, especially in an all-girls school,” she said.

“Last year we had identical twin captains, and they were great role models, so I’m excited about it.”

Our senior students are thriving in their studies thanks to the College's innovative HSC Peer Tutor Program, launched in May 2024. This unique partnership brings back high-achieving alumnae from the Classes of 2022 and 2023 to mentor current students across more than 20 HSC subjects — including English, Mathematics, Religion, HSIE, Science, Creative Arts and PDHPE. Each Wednesday and Thursday from 12–3pm, our dedicated peer tutors work on site, offering personalised coaching, subject-specific support, exam preparation guidance, study strategies and post-school advice. Students can simply book a session, work independently, get one-on-one help, and make real progress on their major works and assessments. With HSC results due soon, this program has already played an important role in supporting the Class of 2025, boosting confidence and helping students consolidate their learning during key assessment and exam periods. And our newest Year 12s (Class of 2026) are already enjoying the benefits — tapping into the expertise, encouragement and real-life insights our alumnae mentors bring each week. The program continues to strengthen the Sisterhood connection between our past and present students — supported by wider alumnae engagement through our signature Lunch & Learn Guest Speaker Series and annual Careers High Tea. Our Principal Leader, Tania Cairns praised both mentors and senior students for their commitment: “Our Year 11s and 12s have truly stepped up and embraced this opportunity as they work towards achieving their academic goals and career aspirations… the tutors' dedicated approach reflects their ongoing commitment and connection to our Caroline Chisholm Sisterhood.” We are incredibly proud of this growing initiative and the strong community spirit it represents. The fabulous career of Kristen Palfreeman (Class of 2021) is flourishing — and at Wednesday's Lunch and Learn, she returned to inspire our current students, eager to explore their own future pathway to interior design. After completing a Bachelor of Interior Design at Billy Blue College of Design (Torrens University), Kristen stepped into the dynamic world of shaping spaces, collaborating with clients, choosing materials, exploring concepts, creating digital models, and bringing ideas to life — from sketch to final fit-out. Now at HDR Interior Design, Kristen works with a team passionate about traditional homes, rural properties and character-filled spaces that tell a story. Our audience heard Kristen’s journey from high school classroom to industry studio and got a real insight into what it’s like to work in a profession where creativity, problem-solving and innovation come together in exciting and meaningful ways. She spoke about her degree, her internship with HDR, an unforgettable London Design Tour, and her roles and responsibilities as a full-time Interior Designer. In just a few short years, Kristen has achieved so much — and students could clearly see a pathway they too could follow. Kristen also highlighted the importance of building transferable skills like communication and confidence — starting with her very first casual job at Athlete’s Foot and through each step she's taken since. She reflected on how her time at Caroline Chisholm College, especially studying Design & Technology and Visual Arts in her HSC, laid the foundations for the designer she is today, with a focus on human emotions and people-focused spaces. Perhaps her most powerful message of all: say yes to opportunities — you never know where they’ll take you. What an inspiring session - thank you Kristen for your wonderful presentation, proving how creativity and courage can shape spaces — and futures! Our background image features a recent kitchen renovation design project that Kristen has had a big hand in at Kings Langley. https://www.facebook.com/HDRInteriorDesign

Our Year 12 Work Studies students were lucky to hear from our very own Librarian, Frances Robinson, who visited the class to share her inspiring career journey. Before becoming a qualified librarian, Frances spent many years as a Regional Bank Manager, where she witnessed first-hand the rapid evolution of workplace technologies and the impact they had on communication, customer service, and daily operations. Students had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions about her decision to change career paths, the challenges she faced, and the exciting opportunities that came with taking a new direction. Frances’ story highlighted the importance of adaptability, lifelong learning, and embracing change in an ever-shifting world of work. A huge thank you to Frances for generously sharing her experience and wisdom!

Huge shoutout to our Junior Touch Football team! This talented group of Year 7 and 8 students have been a privilege to coach this season. From day one, they brought commitment, teamwork and a real passion for the game. Week after week, they supported each other, showed skills beyond their years and delivered outstanding results, earning a well deserved semi-final spot against Gilroy last week. Although we didn’t get the win, the girls certainly put up a fight. Congratulations to all players on a fantastic season. It has been an honour to coach you, and I’m incredibly proud of everything you’ve achieved

A Special Report: Surviving Christmas Many people see Christmas as a wonderful time of celebration and an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. However, there are some that view it as a time of stress and hardship. This may be due to a combination of things: financial pressures, relationship issues and, quite often, loneliness, making it a very challenging time. Often the true meaning of Christmas can be lost due to commercial exploitation, but there are a number of things you can do to create a magical Christmas, without the financial burden. Creating or maintaining traditions can contribute to a sense of comfort and belonging. Unfortunately for some, there is also an ugly side to Christmas. Support organisations often report an increase in the number of calls from people seeking help due to their inability to cope during this time. If you, or a loved one, is finding that it is all too much, then it is important to reach out to a trusted friend, family member or medical professional. In this Special Report, parents and care givers will be presented with a number of ideas on how to achieve a stress-free Christmas and where to seek help should you need it. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
