Staff and students at Caroline Chisholm Catholic College are well and truly seeing double, with five sets of twins starting this year.
Principal Tania Cairns said she has also only ever seen three sets of twins in one year group before.
“We have had two and I think one year there was three, but not five, so this is really a first, it’s very unusual,” she said.
“I don’t quite know what was in the water back in time when they were conceived, but there was certainly something in the water there!”
With four sets identical and one fraternal, Cairns said having that many twins at the school overall has been just as special for the kids as it is the school.
“Having gathered together last week, they certainly felt like it was very special for them, because they said they had other twins in their school, but none of them had other twins in their year groups,” she said.
They’re a special little group within themselves, really.
Cairns said that all of the twins are in the same classes, except one set who have been separated since Year 4, noting how strongly linked they all are to one another.
“I’ve noticed how physically connected they were, because one of them had arms link and another was holding hands – you wouldn’t normally see that in Year 7,” she said.
“It was very hard to pull them apart, they were very strongly linked to each other.”
Noting last year’s leadership team, Cairns said that maybe Caroline Chisholm is the place to be for twins in the area.
“It’s extraordinary, and it’s very, very special, especially in an all-girls school,” she said.
“Last year we had identical twin captains, and they were great role models, so I’m excited about it.”

Congratulations to Year 11 student Josie C for her outstanding performance at the recent Interschool Horse Extravaganza (ISHE) in Tamworth. Representing our school with exceptional skill and sportsmanship, Josie achieved remarkable results across both Dressage and Show Jumping events in highly competitive fields. In the 65cm Combined Training event, Josie delivered an impressive performance among 70 competitors: Show Jumping: 1st Place Dressage: 9th Place Overall Combined Score: 5th Place Building on her momentum, Josie also competed in the 60cm Show Jumping event, securing a fantastic 2nd Place out of 32 riders. Congratulations Josie!

We are incredibly proud of Charlotte B (Year 10), who was recently named Junior Umpire of the Year at the Penrith District Netball Association Presentation Night! Over the past 12 months, Charlotte has achieved her National B Umpire Badge, been invited to umpire for Netball NSW at the Metro and Summer Series competitions, and officiated at numerous representative carnivals. Our Year 11 students gathered at the St Benedict XVI Retreat Centre this week for their Senior Retreat, guided by the theme “What we are is God’s gift to ourselves.” Through prayer, reflection and shared experiences, students explored their God-given gifts, strengthened their faith and reflected on how they can lead through service and make a positive difference in their final year and beyond. A highlight was the student-led Liturgy of the Word, celebrated by Father Johnson Joseph and Father Sheldon Burke from St Padre Pio Parish, whom we sincerely thank for their continued support and guidance. As our students embark on this significant year, may they lead with courage, live with faith and serve with compassion, leaving a lasting legacy within our College community and beyond.

Year 10 took public transport to the city to attend the Japan Foundation where they participating in a Japanese language immersion program designing their "Dream Trip to Japan". They also learnt about traditional designs and their meanings, before doing some hands on shibori-zome dying. The day was rounded out with Japanese retail therapy at Daiso and a yummy Japanese lunch.

During the holidays, the Ancient History class had the opportunity to go on a day trip to Melbourne to visit the Ancient Rome Exhibit at Melbourne Museum. Starting very early at Penrith Station, the students accompanied by Ms Esler, Mrs Vella and Mrs Chan made their way to Sydney Airport to catch a flight to Melbourne. On arriving to Melbourne, they took advantage of the free tram service to see the sights of Melbourne CBD before making their way to the Museum. The museum displayed a number of artefacts that are on loan from museums in Italy. These were on display amongst interactive displays that portrayed everything from Roman Baths to Gladiatorial events in the arena. Many of the statues and other artefacts on display were of key figures in the Julio-Claudian unit, which made a very good introduction to the HSC Course. Afterwards, students and teachers enjoyed some very high quality pizza that felt in keeping with the Italian theme of the trip. After lunch, it was then time to head back to the airport to make their way home.
