Graduates return to inspire next generation of women

Year 12 students at Caroline Chisholm College had full hearts and full bellies after the annual Careers High Tea.

The school welcomed back six alumnae from the Classes of 2000-2022 to act as role models and mentors for the younger generation.

Partnerships and Pathways Coach at the Glenmore Park all-girls school Adam MacNamara said they're very fortunate to have a strong network of former students who are willing to come back and share their stories.

"We call it the sisterhood," MacNamara said.

"Students from the past coming back to guide and mentor our current students who will then go on to pursue their own careers and pathways.

"I think there's a lovely synergy and connection there across the different graduates and generations."

The panelists included ABC News reporter Chantelle Al-Khouri, interior designer and business owner Blaire Marchand, exercise physiologist Isabella La Malfa, general manager of Clinique and Aveda Corinne Duffy, nurse Alana Blowers, and sales associate at Ray White Ava Musumeci.

Year 12 student Amy Jarukrut aspires to join the Australian Defence Force or go into psychology or criminology, and she said it was encouraging to hear from women who graduated before her even though they went down different career paths.

"Even though it didn't line up with my future, it allowed me to get some inspiration on how I should get there," Jarukrut said.

The student said her favourite speaker was Blacktown Hospital nurse Alana Blowers.

"I really enjoyed listening to her because I want to do something with psychology," Jarukrut explained.

"I feel like that was a really nice way to get to know what a nurse life would be like."

The idea of a high tea came about because the school wanted to create a fun and classy event that suited the students.

"Last year we did a breakfast and this year we thought we'd give it another little twist and call it a high tea," MacNamara said.

Year 7.4 History students explored the history and significance of the Terracotta Warriors, learning about their connection to China's first emperor and their role in protecting him in the afterlife. Drawing on their understanding of this ancient archaeological discovery, students then used air-dry clay to design and create their own Terracotta Warrior sculptures. This hands-on activity encouraged creativity while helping students develop a deeper appreciation of ancient Chinese culture and craftsmanship.

Click here for the video: https://youtu.be/-m75fA1hdx4?si=9q86QnrY9XCZGWA5 The video features one of our Year 10 Commerce classes and highlights the outstanding achievement of Sophie McLaughlin (Year 12, 2025), who was crowned the Playconomics 2024 National Winner, finishing in the top 0.5% of students across Australia! Year 12 student Taylah is currently undertaking the Introduction to Aviation Operations Microcredential, courtesy of Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese and hosted by Western Sydney University at their Parramatta City campus. Over two days, Taylah is joining fellow CSPD students to gain valuable industry knowledge and practical skills, led by aviation experts, that will support her aspirations of pursuing a career in cabin crew and developing a deeper understanding of the sector. This experience complements the incredible opportunities Taylah has already embraced, including her mentoring with Kalinda Petrovski at Qantas and her participation in the Cabin Crew Immersion Day with the Qantas Early Talent Team. Together, these experiences are helping Taylah build industry knowledge, connections and confidence as she works towards her dream career. This incredible opportunity has allowed Taylah to further strengthen her qualifications and readiness for life beyond school as she prepares for take-off into the aviation industry. A huge thank you to CSPD, WSU, WSI, and especially Rasha Fitzsimons, for providing such a meaningful opportunity and for supporting Taylah's aspirations.

Today our Year 12 students reached an important milestone β€” just 100 days until graduation. As we continue our 2026 theme, "This Is Your Moment – Embrace the Sprint," we encourage our students to stay focused, seek feedback, support one another, and make the most of every opportunity that comes their way and to make every learning experience count as they work towards their goals. At the same time, to take the opportunity to celebrate achievements, strengthen friendships, and create lasting memories as they enjoy the experiences that make their final year of school so special. Our 100-Day Countdown Display and Year 12 Notice Board will help mark the journey ahead, highlighting key events, important dates, and milestones as we count down together. Year 12, this is your moment. Embrace the sprint, trust the process, and finish strong. We can't wait to celebrate all that you achieve over the next 100 days and beyond.

A big thank you to Grant Jackson, experienced nurse and educator with Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD), for hosting today's fascinating Lunch & Learn and giving our students a front-row seat to careers in nursing and allied health. With many of our students undertaking the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance and Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance each year, Grant's visit was a timely opportunity to learn more about these EVET courses, the application process and the many pathways available within the healthcare sector. Drawing on his extensive experience as a nurse, Grant shared valuable insights into his own career journey and pathways into the sector. He also highlighted the rewarding impact that nurses and allied health professionals make every day in our local community. We have no doubt that our students left inspired by the possibilities ahead and motivated to explore careers where they can make a real difference in the lives of others.
