Students across Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) brought the 2026 National Skills Week theme, “Life Changing”, to life through the 2026 ParraSkills Video Competition, showcasing the skills, experiences and opportunities available through Vocational Education and Training (VET).
Students were challenged to respond to the theme to highlight how VET can change lives through building practical skills, shaping career aspirations, and opening doors to future study, training and employment.
The competition attracted 21 entries from students across a range of VET industry areas, with each video offering a unique perspective on the impact of vocational education.
Judges selected five outstanding submissions, with students from Santa Sophia Catholic College Gables taking first place for their creative Business Services entry.
Using a classroom door as a metaphor for opportunity, Andre C, Vibhuti L and Xavier F demonstrated how VET can open doors to future pathways and student success.
The ParraSkills Video Competition was open to students from across CSPD’s VET in Schools program, with entries received from Santa Sophia Catholic College Gables, Caroline Chisholm College Glenmore Park, CathWest Innovation College, Nagle College Blacktown, St Columba’s Catholic College Springwood, St Pauls Catholic College Greystanes and Xavier College Llandilo. Students from Maronite College of the Holy Family, who undertake VET through the CSPD Registered Training Organisation, secured second place with their impressive Hospitality entry.
Third place went to Catherine McAuley Westmead for their Business Services entry, with Leana El J, Saadhana K, Aayushi G and Martina F using the subject selection process to show how choosing VET can influence future pathways and careers.
Two further Catherine McAuley entries were recognised as Highly Commended: Kleo H and Alessia G for their Business Services video, and Alana S, Lara L, Karina H and Riana A for their Hospitality entry.

Thursday was the last day of the National Piano Championship in Canberra and Year 9 student Hanna has won 1st place in the 'Piano Own Choice' section (14 years and under). Congratulations, Hanna! We are incredibly proud of you and all that you have achieved at the Australian National Eisteddfod.

Our next generation of Fast Forward students have officially launched into their exciting four-year journey with Western Sydney University! Hosted at the picturesque Hawkesbury Campus, the Year 9s, together with their Leader of Learning, Kim Weaire and Pathways Coach Adam MacNamara, joined schools from across the region and stepped into the role of “change agents in training” - exploring how their strengths and transferable skills can help navigate learning and career pathways that help create positive change and shape their futures. The day was packed with opportunities to develop teamwork, collaboration and problem-solving skills, including a campus challenge exploring the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Students took on the roles of Investigators, Explorers, Innovators and Communicators, working together to develop sustainability-focused findings and solutions before presenting their ideas to Fast Forward peers from across Western Sydney. What a fantastic way to begin four years of discovering, connecting, collaborating and Fast Forwarding their futures! Thank you to Ana Setiu Tuala and the Future Student Engagement Team at WSU for this invaluable initiative.

The Year 12 Physics class recently visited the University of NSW with students from Christian Brothers Lewisham to undertake a series of quantum physics investigations. Validating Einstein’s theoretical predictions, they successfully calculated the kinetic energy of photoelectrons liberated from the surface of a metal by incident light. Following a technique employed by astrophysicists to analyse the nature of stars, the students then expertly used the telescopic spectrometer to observe and measure the emission spectra of sodium and mercury.

Congratulations to Mia D in Year 7 on her outstanding success at the National Piano Championship in Canberra! Mia achieved 1st Place in the Classical Section (12 Years and Under) and 3rd Place in the Own Choice Section (12 Years and Under). Congratulations to Josie from Yr 11 who competed on the weekend in the interschools Arndell Anglican College Equestrian Carnival. On Monday, we had three of our dance companies compete in the Hawkesbury City Eisteddfod in Windsor. The girls were amazing and had a ball up on stage. Congratulations to our Jazz team for receiving 2nd place and an outstanding score and also to the Hip Hop and Senior Lyrical teams for winning their sections. Well done girls. We are so proud of you!

Congratulations to Year 12 student Lara, who has been awarded the Zonta Achievement Award for a Young Indigenous Woman for the NSW and ACT District. Lara was commended for her outstanding service, leadership and initiative within our College and the wider community. We sincerely thank Zonta International for recognising Lara’s achievements and Melinda Beves for visiting the College to present Lara with her certificate.
